What to expect at your Sports Injury Assessment?
Arrive 10 minutes before your appointment time
Meet your therapist
Subjective history
Physical examination
You will need to fill out consent forms prior to meeting your therapist, this saves time during your actual appointment.
Once all the necessary forms have been filled in, your therapist will greet you and take you to a private consultation room where the assessment will begin.
To begin, your therapist may ask you a number of questions regarding your past medical history, general health, previous injuries, hobbies, occupation and lifestyle.
Please be prepared to answer these questions as this helps the therapist to build a picture in their head about what may be going on prior to the physical examination.
Your therapist will ask you to complete a series of movements to see how efficiently the affected area is working.
They may test your strength, range of movement and even complete certain special test to get to the root of the problem.
It is not uncommon for you to be a little sore after this, so do ensure you take adequate pain relief as advised following the appointment.

Management
After your therapist has completed their initial assessment and examination, they will explain exactly what is going on and the reason for the pain you are having.
They will then discuss the different treatment techniques and advice that will help you with your rehabilitation.
Your treatment will range from the following options:
- Exercise prescription
- Shockwave therapy
- Ultrasound therapy
- Massage
- Joint mobilisation
- Onward referral
Should you require further investigation, our therapists can refer you for MRI scans and/or surgical opinions.
As a multidisciplinary team at HTC, we may refer you to our colleagues for osteopathy or massage.
Most often your therapist will see you weekly until they are confident you can manage your condition by yourself.
You will be given some advice and a few exercises to do at home until your next appointment.
As your pain settles down, the time in-between your appointments will become longer until you and your therapist agree you can self-manage.
What to wear to your Sports Injury assessment?
Your therapist will need to see the problematic area to assess it. Please ensure you have dressed appropriately in order for them to do so. We would advise a strappy top for any upper limb injuries and shorts for any lower limb injuries.
